Deacon Bennie J. Williams, Jr., age 57, of Kansas City, Missouri, died on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at Truman Medical Center. He was born on November 25, 1952, to Bennie J. Williams, Sr. and Sophia Annie (McKinney) Williams in Kansas City, Kansas. His mother preceded him in death.

Bennie was a lifelong area resident and attended the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri. He was a graduate of Central High School class of 1970.  He furthered his education and received a degree in sports medicine. He was a merchandiser for a local lamp and lighting company until his health begin to fail. He was affectionately known as BJ to his friends, Jr. to his family and Bennie James to his wife, Karen.

Bennie was a member of the Temple of Faith Missionary Baptist Church and served in the Deacon ministry, Laymen, Outreach Ministry, Educational Ministry and Choir. One of his greatest joys was singing in the church. He enjoyed being in service for the Lord and his service extended beyond Sunday morning worship, this was manifested by the personal studies he had with his family you could always find him ministering and studying God's word at home. He could be found sharing God's word at the barbershop, grocery store or wherever he had an opportunity. He united in marriage to Karen R. Harvey on March 25, 2006. He enjoyed time with his friends, going to Bible study and helping the elderly.

BJ had a special fatherly relationship with his favorite niece Essence and her sons, Derrick and Kamari. His desire was for the boys was to learn of God's love, he took them to church and bible study with him.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Karen R. Williams, of the home; two sons, Bennie J. Williams III and Robert Williams; three daughters, Chynna Williams, Shreveport, LA, LaStar Jones (Ronell), Kansas City, MO, and Meosha Nunn, Dallas, TX; his father, Bennie J. Williams, Sr., Kansas City, MO; one brother, Robert Williams (Joan), Seattle, WA; two sisters, Doris "Rochelle" Williams and Sharla Webb, Kansas City, MO; seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; special niece, Essence Williams, great nephews, Derrick Davis and Kamari Williams, a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be on Friday, October 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Temple of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. John F. Payne officiating. Burial will be in XII Gates Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday at 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors.
